Kids Tiffin Box - Authentic Ragi Idiyappam(Finger Millet String Hooper)


I always have had this challenge, so I thought let me pen down my thoughts so that it can useful for mommies like you who are having tough time in the kitchen when comes to get in making breakfast or pack lunch for kids.
I know its a real challenge luring kids for breakfast and if the lunch box comes empty nothing like it for mommies. 
Kids need variety, don't they do, to get balanced diet and at the same time its important to not to compromise on their nutrition part.  So keeping all that in mind it needed to think out of the box  while preparing their breakfast or lunch. 

I am herewith sharing a few ideas so as to make all our life easier for all of you’ll. A  few of my recipes can be  prepared even in the night. All it takes is to refrigerate and cook it the next morning.

Let's begin kids lunch box/breakfast recipes with Ragi Idiyappam-finger millet string Hooper

Ragi Idiyappam(Finger Millet String Hooper) 

Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time:20 minutes

Receipe: south Indian breakfast

Serve:3


Ingredients:

Sprouted finger miller flower: 2 cups



Salt Required 
Warm water: 1/4 cup or as required 

Preparation method:

Heat a pan and roast the finger millet(raggi flour)  and heat till its hot enough and aromatic. 

Take a bowl add the finger millet flour and required salt now slowly add warm water to make it like a dough just ensure that the dough is not too thin or too thick in both consistency you may not get proper strings. 

Once the dough is ready take the Idiyapam press, wet your hands make the dough like a long shaped so that it can be put inside the Idiyapam maker. 

Now keep the steamer or idli cooker on gas the and allow it to steam. 

Take the idli plates press gently the idiyapam strings on to the plates. 
Allow it to steam for 10 minutes once its cool down transfer it to serving plates. 

This can be served with vegetable stew or sweetened coconut milk and it makes it a fantastic breakfast or as dinner. 

In case for lunch box you can give it along with sweetened coconut milk along with a banana or choice of fruit ideally banana.
